Silence was born on April 3rd, 1789 in Stillwater, Saratoga County, New York.1 Silence's father was Joseph Stevens Sr and her mother was Desire Stevens. Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Stevens Sr and Anna Segar; her maternal grandparents were Andrew Stevens Sr and Ester Safford. She had three brothers and four sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Noah, Elias, Isaac, Naomi, Sarah, Chloe, Ann and Jesse. She was the fourth oldest of the nine children. She had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Joseph, John, Rhoda and Lydia.General Notes
