John was born on October 11th, 1774 in Stillwater, Saratoga County, New York.1 John's father was Joseph Stevens Sr and his mother was Naomi Mathews. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Stevens Sr and Anna Segar. He had a brother and two sisters, named Joseph, Rhoda and Lydia. He was the second oldest of the four children. He had three half-brothers and five half-sisters, and also a half-sibling of unknown gender, named Noah, Elias, Isaac, Naomi, Silence, Sarah, Chloe, Ann and Jesse.General Notes
