    Mr Ralph Hodges (10/3/87) died suddenly while on holiday with his son in North Wales.
    Born in Sudbrook, he chose a career in teaching and after serving in the
    R.A.F. during the 1939-1945 War returned to continue in that career. He
    taught for a while in South Harrow before returning to Monmouthshire, first
    to the post of Head Master at Newchurch West and then at Tintern School where he remained until he retired (1966-1976).
    He was an accomplished Church organist and played at St Luke's, Newport and later for a number of years at St Michael's. He was a former member and secretary of the PCC.
    He helped start the VPA in the village and was its first Treasurer and was
    also an active member of the Tuesday Club until poor health forced him to
    give both up. He was a founder member of the Caldicot Male Voice Choir and its Conductor for many years. He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.
