Amos was born in 1812.  Amos' father was Poosey Reeder and his mother was Mary Nancy Asbill Reeder.  His maternal grandparents were William Asbell Sr. and Malinda Ross.  He was the third of four children.  He had two brothers and a sister, named Aaron, John and Elizabeth.  He had four half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Thomas E., William Kelly, Harrison, Sylvester W., Sarah, Sabinda Taborida, Mahala Jane, Lydia and Melinda Emaline.
