Nancy was born in 1772.  Nancy's father was Joseph Asbell and her mother was Dorothy Ross.  Her paternal grandparents were Pierce Asbill and Mary Solomon; her maternal grandparents were George Aeneas Ross and Catherine Van Gezel.  She was the eighth of thirteen children.  She had eight brothers and four sisters, named Aaron, John, William, Joseph, James, Christopher, Martin, Emanuel, Mary, Elizabeth, Martha and Hannah.
