Christopher's father was Joseph Asbell and his mother was Dorothy Ross.  His paternal grandparents were Pierce Asbill and Mary Solomon; his maternal grandparents were George Aeneas Ross and Catherine Van Gezel.  He was the nineth of thirteen children.  He had seven brothers and five sisters, named Aaron, John, William, Joseph, James, Martin, Emanuel, Mary, Elizabeth, Nancy, Martha and Hannah.
