Geertje was born on September 11th, 1778.  Geertje's father was Jan Cornelis de Boer and his mother was Trijntje Dirks Schoutsen / Schoutse / Schouten. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Dirk, Cornelis, Cornelis, Anna, Vrouwtje, Lijsbeth, Lijsbeth and Trijntje.  He was the third oldest of the nine children.
