Jan Bernard was born on May 29th, 1878 in Stad Doetinchem (Doetinchem). Jan Bernard's father was Jan Bernhard Kempers and his mother was Harmina Weenk.  His paternal grandparents were Albert Kempers and Hendrika Bosboom; his maternal grandparents were Gerrit Jan Weenk and Johanna Abbink. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Hendrik Jan, Hendrik Jan, Albert, Gerrit Jan, Johanna Alberdina and Johanna.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 42 on August 22nd, 1920 in Stad Doetinchem (Doetinchem).
