Hendrik Jan was born on August 26th, 1874 in Stad Doetinchem (Doetinchem). Hendrik Jan's father was Jan Bernhard Kempers and his mother was Harmina Weenk.  His paternal grandparents were Albert Kempers and Hendrika Bosboom; his maternal grandparents were Gerrit Jan Weenk and Johanna Abbink. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Hendrik Jan, Jan Bernard, Albert, Gerrit Jan, Johanna Alberdina and Johanna.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 29 on June 11th, 1904 in Stad Doetinchem (Doetinchem).
