Evert was born on January 23rd, 1757 in Zelhem.1  Evert's father was Gart Jan / Garrit Jan Hoeve / Hoever and his mother was Maria / Marija Wassink / Wossink.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Hoeve, ter and Vrouw / Moeder. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named Willem, Jan, Mijntjen, Marten, Jenneken, Geertjen, Hendriea, Janna / Jannij, Stijntjen, Eva and Anneken.  He was the second youngest of the twelve children.
