Hendrik was born on January 4th, 1770 and his baptism took place on October 18th, 1772. Hendrik's father was Jan Derk Craassenberg and his mother was Berendina Coppelman / Koppelman.  His paternal grandparents were Jannes Jansen Craassenberg / Kraassenberg and Hendrina Hendriksen Klein Wesselink; his maternal grandparents were Jan Derk Coppelman and Vrouw / Moeder. He had four sisters named Janna, Hendrika / Hendrica, Aeltjen and Jenneken.  He was the third oldest of the five children.
