Kona was born on December 19th, 1830 in Meppel. Kona's father was Jochem de Vries and her mother was Hendrikje Boerwinkel.  Her paternal grandparents were Hijlle de Vries and Geesjen Jans Klos; her maternal grandparents were Feitze Boerwinkel and Geesje Leenders. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Hijllo, Hielle, Hijlle, NN, Geesje and Willemina.  She was the second youngest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 67 on March 26th, 1898 in Meppel.
