Dirk was born on April 9th, 1776.  Dirk's father was Jan Cornelis de Boer and his mother was Trijntje Dirks Schoutsen / Schoutse / Schouten. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Geertje, Cornelis, Cornelis, Anna, Vrouwtje, Lijsbeth, Lijsbeth and Trijntje.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.
