Jan was born on October 21st, 1767.  Jan's father was Klaas / Claas Janse / Jansz / Jansze Stam and his mother was Antje Pieters. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Pieter, Dirk, Jacob, Dirk, Trijntje, Neeltje and Grietje.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
