Grietje was born on July 15th, 1747.  Grietje's father was Pieter Jans Spaans / Spaens and her mother was Annetje / Antje Klaas Schoonemans / Schonemans.  Her paternal grandparents were Jan Pietersz Spaans / Spaens and Trijn / Trijntje Cornelis / Crelis / Krelisdr; her maternal grandparents were Klaas / Claas Jacobse / Jacobsz Schonemans / Schooneman and Lijsbet Jansd Muijs. She had a brother and four sisters, named Claas, Trijntje, Lijsbeth / Lijsabeth, Maartje and Trijntje.  She was the third youngest of the six children. She had five half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Jan, Cornelis, IJtje, Dirk, Dirk, Aagje, Antje and Jannetje.
