Philps was born on October 20th, 1688. Philps' father was Laurens / Laurentz / Lauwerd Chijle and his mother was Cornelia Philps Schoonemans.  His paternal grandparents were Denijs / Dennis Adamsz Silo (Gilo, Chijlo, Sijloo) and Annetje Schijn; his maternal grandfather was Philp Schoonemans. He had eight brothers and three sisters, named Pieter, Philps, Cornelis, Cornelis, Cornelis, Adam, Laurenz, Stefanis, Anna, Anna and Anna.  He was the second oldest of the twelve children.  He died before 1691.
