Dorothea was born on June 29th, 1729 in Haarlem and her baptism took place there on June 29th, 1729.1  Dorothea's father was Hendrik / Henderik Jansz Persoon and her mother was Lysbeth / Lijsbeth Snep.  Her paternal grandparents were Jan Hendrikse / Hendrickz Persoon and Huibertje Wilhemsz van Geele (Geel). She had four sisters named Huybertje, Dorothe, Marijtje and Stijntje.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
