Jan was born on July 2nd, 1779 in Purmerend.  Jan's father was Jan Dinkla and his mother was Aaltje Reusenaar.  His paternal grandparents were Johann (Jan) Heinrich Dinklage and Anna Rebekka Johansson Hendriksen; his maternal grandparents were Jan Ruischenaar and Vrouw / Moeder. He had eight brothers and seven sisters, named Hendrik, Dirk, Frederik, Willem, Gerrit, Gerrit, Willem, Willem, Antje, Aaltje, Elsje, Elsje, Elisabeth, Elisabeth and Leentje / Lena / Helena.  He was the third oldest of the sixteen children.  He died at the age of 53 on August 28th, 1832 in Purmerend.1
