Sydney was born on March 16th, 1885 in Jamestown, SA.1   Sydney's father was Charles Frank FIELD and his mother was Catherine Jane OCKENDEN.  His paternal grandparents were William FIELD and Martha NOABES; his maternal grandparents were Palmer OCKENDEN and Emma MARSHALL. He had a brother and three sisters, named Archie, Catherine, Clara and Grace.  He was the youngest of the five children.
