Gladys was born on July 21st, 1906 in Kadina, SA.1   Gladys' father was Ernest David EDYVEAN and her mother was Elsie SHARMAN.  Her paternal grandparents were David EDYVEAN and Ann TRETHEWEY; her maternal grandparents were Henry SHARMAN and Elizabeth MACKMAN. She had a brother and three sisters, named Cyril, Edna, Doris and Rita.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
