Edna was born on March 3rd, 1909 in Kadina, SA.1   Edna's father was Ernest David EDYVEAN and her mother was Elsie SHARMAN.  Her paternal grandparents were David EDYVEAN and Ann TRETHEWEY; her maternal grandparents were Henry SHARMAN and Elizabeth MACKMAN. She had a brother and three sisters, named Cyril, Gladys, Doris and Rita.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
