Elva was born on April 7th, 1904 in Gawler South, SA.1 Elva's father was John Henry CAUSBY and her mother was Ellen Mary WARD. Her maternal grandparents were Alfred Samuel WARD and Julia RENDELL. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Frank, Alfred, Leonard, James, Charles, George, Olive, Nellie and Ethel. She was the youngest of the ten children.-
