Hewitt was born on February 16th, 1860 in Rochdale, Lancashire, England.1   Hewitt's father was Alexander CATANACH and his mother was Elizabeth ARTHUR. He had two brothers named Charles and <Unknown>. He had eight half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named George, James, Alexander, Joseph, John, Thomas, Rowland, Alfred, Elizabeth, Priscilla, Sarah, Alice, Kezia, Elizabeth and Priscilla.
