George Oades was born at Bickleigh, near Plymouth 7 Oct 1816 and was the son of George Oades and Alice Worden. He was by trade a shoemaker but later in life became the Postmaster of  South Zeal Post-Office, Devon. On the 1851 census he was living at South Zeal with his two uncles, William and John Oades. He was married late in life to Sarah Elizabeth Coombes who was fourteen years his junior. They had two children, Sarah Jane (1856) and William (1859). George died at South Zeal  26 Sept 1905. He left the following will.

This is the last will of me George Oades of South Zeal in the Parish of South Tawton in the County of Devon retired postmaster. O appoint my nephews William Coombe and John Coombe,  both of the Mill Throwleyl in the said county, Yeomen, (herein after called my trustees) to be the executors of this my will.
I bequeth the following legacy to Maude Coombe  the wife of William Coombe of South Zeal  aforesaid, baker, (provided she assists in nutsing and taking care of me up to the time of my death) the sum of £10.  I devise amd bequeth all my real and personal estate to my trustees... to be held in trust for my grandchildren,William Henry Oades Moore and George Edwin Moore, the children of my late daughter Sarah Jane Moore on their obtaining the age of twenty five years.  To Henry Moore the father of the said William Henry Oades Moore and George Edwin Moore £500. To my two nephews and niece the three children of my late brother Richaed Oades of lymouth £50 each.
