He moved from Smith Falls to Port Arthur, Ontario in 1882.
He was a contractor.
In his obit, It says:, " A well known residence of Port Arthur died. he came to Port Arthur in 1882 from Smiths Falls. Made friends easily and lived on Pearl St. in P.A.  He was 66 years old.  He's been in the contracting business.  While he did not take any active part in public affairs, he was recognized as a man of good character.  He was well known by nearly everyone in the twin towns.  He leaves behind a wife and 5 children, ?? John, James May (or Mary), and a married daughter, Mrs Morris, now residence of Washington, DC."

This was in the city of SF on 1901 census.
