Francis Davenport

  •     Francis Davenport is believed to have been born in southeastern Pennsylvania likely between 1725 and 1730 to Isaac Davenport and his first wife, name unknown. Francis was in the militia in Granville Co., NC and was a fairly successful farmer. He obtained a considerable amount of land (and slaves) prior to his death in 1803 in Newberry Co., SC. He had around 10 children by his first wife. He married again in the early 1790's to a widow, Mrs. Mary Turner. But he had no children by her.

        1) L. Harley Able is a descendant of William Davenport. William Davenport was born about 1774, Newberry District, SC, son of Isaac Davenport and first wife, name unknown. Isaac Davenport was born Granville District, NC, 4/3/1754, died 6/26/1815, Newberry,SC, buried in Davenport family cemetery, off Derrick Road, Silverstreet, SC. Isaac Davenport was the son of Francis Davenport, and his first wife, possibly Ann Wyley. Francis Davenport was born circa 1718 to 1720’s, probably in PA, died 7/23/98, Newberry District, SC. Francis Davenport was the son of Isaac Davenport, born 1690’s, died 1649 Granville County, NC. Isaac is thought to be the Isaac Davenport whose parents were Francis Davenport and his third wife, Rebecca Whitten DeCou, born Burlington, NJ, 1693. This link is not concretely proven. Francis Davenport was born 1651, Cheshire, England, son of Dr. Edward Davenport and his first wife Ellen Newton. Edward Davenport has an unbroken male line back to Orme DeAunceport, a Norman invader, with William the Conqueror. The Davenports have been in Cheshire since the Norman invasion
