Jennett was born in 1777 in Garstang, Lancashire, England.  Jennett's father was William Wilkinson and her mother was Jennet Jenkinson.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry Wilkinson and Mary Lucas; her maternal grandparents were John Jenkinson and Jennet Helme. She had five brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Edward, John, William, George and Alice.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.
