John was born before 1711 in Eastham, Cheshire, England and his baptism took place there on February 28th, 1711. John's father was Sir William Stanley (3rd Baron Hooton & Stourton) and his mother was Catherine Eyre.  His paternal grandparents were Sir Rowland Stanley (2nd Baron Errington) and Anne Paston; his maternal grandparents were Rowland Eyre (of Hassop) and Elizabeth Plunkett. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Rowland, William, Henry, Thomas Charles, Charles, James, Elizabeth, Anne and Dorothy.  He was the fourth oldest of the ten children.  He died on November 24th, 1794 in Hooton, Cheshire, England.
