Robert was born on December 31st, 1835 in Barony, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland and his baptism took place there on February 7th, 1836. Robert's father was Robert Sinclair and his mother was Marion Robertson.  His maternal grandparents were David Robertson and Margaret Buchan. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Alexander, David, Margaret, Marion and Jean.  He was the third youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 75 on December 9th, 1911 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
