John was born in 1793 in Midsomer Norton, Somerset, England.  John's father was William Parsons and his mother was Mary Lansdown.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Parsons and Sarah Unknown; his maternal grandparents were John Lansdown and Mary Hobson. He had a brother and a sister, named William Lansdown and Ann.  He was the youngest of the three children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named William Lansdown, John and Ann.
