Jannet was born on April 27th, 1728 in Auchterderran, Fife, Scotland.  Jannet's father was John Mackie and her mother was Margaret Reid. She had a brother and three sisters, named John, Isobel, Christian and Agnes.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
