Charles was born on June 3rd, 1797 in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England and his baptism took place on June 3rd, 1797. Charles' father was Samuel Rainbow Girdlestone and his mother was Caroline Roberts Powell.  His paternal grandparents were Zurishaddai Girdlestone and Sarah Hewitt; his maternal grandparents were James Powell and Unknown. He had two brothers and a sister, named Samuel, Edward and Charlotte.  He was the second oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 83 on April 28th, 1881 in Weston Super Mare, Somerset, England.  He was buried in Weston Super Mare, Somerset, England.
