Beatrice May was born about 1891 in Taunton, Somerset, England.  Beatrice May's father was John Farthing and her mother was Sarah Ann Grant. She had six brothers and five sisters, named William, John, Charles, Walter, Arther Willie, Fred, Mary (Polly), Sarah, Harriet, Elizabeth and Louise.  She was the third youngest of the twelve children.
