John was born on June 3rd, 1805 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. John's father was Mathew Bowden and his mother was Maria Stanfield. His paternal grandparents were John Bowden and Elisabeth Bee; his maternal grandparents were Richard Stanfield and Ann Crisby. He had two brothers and a sister, named Unknown, William Henry and Ann Elizabeth. He was the oldest of the four children. He had a half-brother named Thomas Sargeant. He died at the age of 57 on November 2nd, 1862 in Naracoorte, South Australia, Australia.-
