Mary was born on July 23rd, 1700 in Elginhaugh, Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland and her baptism took place there on July 28th, 1700. Mary's father was Abraham Barrowman and her mother was Bethia Dickson. Her paternal grandparents were John Barrowman and Janet Gray. She had five brothers and two sisters, named John, James, Abraham, Charles, Thomas, Jennet and Isabel. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.-
