Her maternal grandparents were Friedrich Jon “Fred” Sprecher and Louise “Christine” Gruning (Sprecher) Grunning. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Christian, Lou, Osker, Reinhold, Arthur, Benjamin, Friedricka, Kathrina and Paulina. She was the second oldest of the ten children.
