Herbert Smith

Herbert was born in 1886 in Leeds, Yorkshire.¹ Herbert's father was James John Smith and his mother was Sarah Gale. His paternal grandparents were John Smith and Mary Germaine; his maternal grandparents were William Gale and Elizabeth Jordan. He had four brothers and a sister, named Charles, Benjamin, Frederick, James and Mary. He was the second youngest of the six children.
