Anne was born on March 7th, 1807 in Stainburn, Yorkshire and her baptism took place there on May 10th, 1807.  Anne's father was John Coates and her mother was Ann Snell.  Her paternal grandparents were William Coates and Elizabeth Petty; her maternal grandparents were Richard Snell and Mary Mountain. She had seven brothers and five sisters, named Joseph, John, Jonas, Francis, Richard, William, Thomas, Mary, Jane, Grace, Martha and Susannah.  She was the sixth youngest of the thirteen children.
