William was born in 1873 in Kidderminster, Worcestershire.  William's father was Robert LONG and his mother was Sarah PEARCE.  His paternal grandmother was Elizabeth LONG; his maternal grandparents were Samuel PEARCE and Ann TROWE. He had five brothers and six sisters, named George, Robert, William, John, Charles, Elizabeth, Sarah, Alice, Harriett, Annie and Annie.  He was the third oldest of the twelve children. He had a half-sister named Sarah.  He died  due to Accidentally suffocated at the age of 9 on March 18th, 1882 in Wednesbury New Mine Colliery at West Bromwich, Staffordshire.
