Mary was born in 1833 in Evenlode, Gloucesteshire and her baptism took place on May 12th, 1833 in St.Edward, Evenlode, Worcestershire.1 2  Mary's father was Richard LONG and her mother was Elizabeth SMITH.  Her paternal grandparents were John Henry LONG and Ann TAYLOR; her maternal grandparents were <Unknown> and Hannah <UNKNOWN>. She had three brothers and two sisters, named George, John, William, Elizabeth and Joyce.  She was the third oldest of the six children.
