Sarah was born in 1869 in Stockingford, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.  Sarah's father was William CLARKE and her mother was Mary Ann ROBINSON.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas CLARKE and Sarah <UNKNOWN>; her maternal grandfather was William ROBINSON. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, William, George, Ellen and Ann.  She was the oldest of the six children. She had a half-sister named Elizabeth.
