Mark was born in 1838 in Atherstone, Warwickshire.  Mark's father was Joseph BRIERLEY and his mother was Elizabeth <UNKNOWN>. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Charles, William, John, Joseph, Hannah and Mary.  He was the youngest of the seven children.
