Charles was born in 1827 in Atherstone, Warwickshire.  Charles' father was Joseph BRIERLEY and his mother was Elizabeth <UNKNOWN>. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William, John, Joseph, Mark, Hannah and Mary.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
