Мелания was born on December 27th, 1899.  Мелания's father was Василий Симеонов Передерей and her mother was Евфросиния Евстратиева Клёва (Передерей).  Her paternal grandparents were Симеон Алексеев Передерей and Варвара Вуколина Тищенко (Передерей). She had three brothers and four sisters, named Павел, Яков, Трофим, Мария, Матрона, Марфа and Елисавета.  She was the second youngest of the eight children.
