Матрона was born on March 9th, 1893.  Матрона's father was Василий Симеонов Передерей and her mother was Евфросиния Евстратиева Клёва (Передерей).  Her paternal grandparents were Симеон Алексеев Передерей and Варвара Вуколина Тищенко (Передерей). She had three brothers and four sisters, named Павел, Яков, Трофим, Мария, Марфа, Мелания and Елисавета.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
