Sarah's father was Nathaniel Whitney and her mother was Sarah Ford.  Her paternal grandparents were Benjamin Whitney and Jane. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Nathan, Nathaniel, Abel, Isaac, Amos, Lydia, Lydia and Joanna.
