John was born in 1592.  John's father was Thomas Whitney and his mother was Mary Bray.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Whitney and Elizabeth Morgan; his maternal grandfather was John Bray and his maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Henry, Nowell, Francis, Robert, Margaret, Arnwaye and Mary.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 81 on June 1st, 1673.
