Richard was born in 1626.  Richard's father was John Whitney and his mother was Elinor.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Whitney and Mary Bray. He had seven brothers and a sister, named John, Nathaniel, Thomas, Jonathan, Benjamin, Joshua, Caleb and Mary.
