Stephen was born on May 25th, 1782.  Stephen's father was Ebenezer Watson and his mother was Anna Whitney.  His paternal grandparents were Eliphalet Watson and Elizabeth Phinney; his maternal grandparents were Nathan Whitney and Elizabeth Melcher. He had six brothers and a sister, named Stephen, Joseph, Samuel, William, John, Nathan and Elizabeth.  He was the fifth oldest of the eight children.
