Marie was born on October 24th, 1770.  Marie's father was Joachim  (Bénoni) dit Bénoni Lemire and her mother was Madeleine Melançon.  Her paternal grandparents were Pierre Lemire and Marie Josèphe Forest; her maternal grandparents were Jacques Melançon and Marguerite Brossard. She had six brothers and five sisters, named Benjamin, Jean, Pierre, Alexandra, Joseph, Belhonnt, Scholastique, Félicité, Rosalie, Marguerite and Madgeleine.
